The diffuser (1) has a diffuser housing wall (6) for delimiting a diffuser channel (7), where the diffuser housing wall is formed in such a manner that the diffuser channel widens in the flow direction (14) of a working fluid (21). An auxiliary fluid (22) has an auxiliary fluid reservoir and a suction unit (10), which has a suction passage (11) that is opened into the diffuser channel on an opening region (24). The flow (13) of the auxiliary fluid suctioned from the auxiliary fluid reservoir into the diffuser channel is directed by guide device (12) such that the flow is brought directly adjacent to the diffuser housing wall into the flow direction and into the boundary layer of the working fluid on the diffuser housing wall. An independent claim is included for a flow machine, which has a turbine.
