<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a descent regulating device with a novel feature superior in workability in a recovery work. <P>SOLUTION: A descent regulating device 10 of a shutter curtain is intended to regulate rotation of a follower sprocket 41 in the event of abnormality when a chain 60, which is wound onto a follower sprocket 41 for driving a winding drum 4 and a driving sprocket 71 driven by an opening/closing device 7, is fractured or comes off. The descent regulating device 10 has a contact area 13 on which the circumference of the chain 60 engages, a rotation member 12 which starts rotation when no engagement of the chain 60 takes place in the event of abnormality, and a stopper 11 provided on the rotation member 12 which engages with the follower sprocket 41 in the event of abnormality.
