PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detection device that accurately detects a position of an object provided in an optical waveguide and having a refractive index consecutively changed, and to provide a position detection method that accurately detects a position of an object provided in the optical waveguide and having the refractive index consecutively changed.SOLUTION: A position detection device 1 is the device that detects a position of an alignment mark provided in an optical waveguide 9, and has: the optical waveguide 9; a light source 11 that irradiates the alignment mark with light having a peak wavelength of 350 to 1400nm in an emission spectrum; a camera 12 that photographs the alignment mark; a polarizing light selection optical system 13 that is provided on an optical path connecting the optical waveguide 9 and the alignment mark to the camera, and selectively differentiates a passing amount of light emitted from the light source 11 and reflected in the optical waveguide 9 or upon the alignment mark on the basis of a difference in polarization; and a control part 14 that identifies the position of the alignment mark on an image photographed by the camera 12. |
