PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of keeping an occupant of another vehicle, which appears suddenly, from being dazzled by appropriately controlling irradiation of light from a headlamp device even in a poor-visibility environment.SOLUTION: A control unit that controls a headlamp device uses a luminance sensor to repeatedly execute processing of measuring the brightness in front of an own vehicle. For example, when a curved road region is present forward the own vehicle, the brightness of a road surface or guardrail in a specific area (an area to which light is irradiated from a headlamp device of a preceding vehicle) within the road region is measured. A change quantity &Dgr; of the measured value of the brightness from a previous measured value is calculated (S160). If the change quantity &Dgr; is equal to or larger than a threshold TH (Yes at S170), a vehicle that has not appeared in a forward visual field of the own vehicle is foreseen to emerge (S180), and an irradiation mode of the light from the headlamp device is switched from one to another in order to darken the emergence area (S185, 190, and 195). |
