METHOD FOR REMOVING RADIOACTIVE CESIUM FROM SOIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing radioactive cesium from soil, capable of efficiently removing radioactive cesium from the soil at low cost.SOLUTION: This method includes: (1) a classification step for carrying out the wet classification or the dry classification of the soil; (2) an addition step for adding an inorganic calcium compound or an organic calcium compound generating calcium oxide in an oxidizing atmosphere of 500°C or more to the soil containing radioactive cesium so that the ratio of the inorganic calcium compound or the organic calcium compound in a mixture is 3 to 30 mass%, and further adding sodium chloride so that it is more than 0.5 mass% and 5 mass% or less to the mass of the mixture of the soil and the inorganic calcium compound or the organic calcium compound; (3) a heating step for volatilizing radioactive cesium from the soil after the addition step, by applying heat treatment for 30 to 120 minutes at a temperature of 1000 to 1200°C; and (4) a recovery step for recovering radioactive cesium volatilized from the soil by the heating step.
