PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual image display device capable of obtaining a virtual image with high brightness by a simple constitution and achieving downsizing.SOLUTION: A virtual image display device includes: an image projection device 10 that projects image light; a divergent element 30 where the image light emitted from the image projection device 10 enters and that diverges and emits the image light at a given angle range; and a light branching element 50 that reflects the image light emitted from the divergent element 30 and transmits the incident light from a surface different from a reflection surface. An image of the image light from the image projection device 10 is formed on the divergent element 30, and a virtual image of the image formed on the divergent element 30 is generated on an extension line in an opposite direction to an emission direction of the image light reflected from the light branching element 50. An optical axis conversion element 20 for converting an optical axis of the image light emitted from the image projection device 10 in a given direction is further provided.
