METHOD FOR REMOVING RADIOACTIVE CESIUM FROM SOIL AND WOODY WASTE MATERIALS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing radioactive cesium from soil and woody waste materials, capable of efficiently removing radioactive cesium from soil and woody waste materials at low cost.SOLUTION: A method for removing radioactive cesium from soil and woody waste materials of the present invention includes: a first classification step for separating woody waste materials from soil by dry classification; an addition step for adding an inorganic calcium compound or an organic calcium compound and sodium chloride to the remainder of the soil that is obtained by removing the woody waste materials in the first classification step; a heating step for volatilizing radioactive cesium from the soil and the woody waste materials, by applying heat treatment to the soil and the woody waste materials after the addition step for 30 to 120 minutes at a temperature of 900 to 1200°C; and a recovery step for recovering radioactive cesium volatilized from the soil and the woody waste materials by the heating step.
