PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve system capable of restricting partial wear and dropping caused by a lateral dislocation of a swing arm in respect to a supporting member by limiting the maximum number of revolution of an engine in response to a lost motion displacement magnitude (a stroke amount) of a valve stopper mechanism during stopping state of the valve.SOLUTION: At a step S1, a practical valve lift amount L corresponding to a rotational angle &thetas; of a control shaft 21 is calculated and at the same time an output signal of a hydraulic switch 48 is inputted. At a step S2, when a signal outputted from the hydraulic switch is ON, the operation is transferred to a step S3 under an assumption that the valve is kept in its stopped state. In this case, a practical lift L at the operating side from the rotational angle &thetas; of the control shaft is calculated and a lost motion displacement amount S is calculated as an imaginary lift at the stopped side, a practical allowable limit number of revolution Na corresponding to the displacement amount S is calculated in reference to a Na characteristic in Fig.11 and at a step S4, it is set with Na being applied as the limited revolution NI. |
