PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of improving image quality by comparing printing in a second mode with a case of printing a picture element of the same gradation in a first mode, when printing in the second mode.SOLUTION: A multi-gradation printer can enhance a gradation of a picture element by a predetermined gradation by one-time ON-OFF of a heater element by heating a thermosensitive medium by a thermal head having a plurality of heater elements arranged in a line shape, and controls the ON-OFF of the heater element in accordance with any of a first mode of repeating the ON-OFF according to a first time being an ON time of the heater element and a second time being an OFF time of the heater element and a second mode of repeating the ON-OFF according to an ON time longer than the first time and an OFF time longer than the second time and lowering the temperature of the heater element more than a maximum of the temperature of the heater element when printing the picture element of the same gradation in the first mode so that application energy applied to the heater element based on a printing period and the temperature of the heater element becomes the same as in the first mode. |
