The present invention relates to a wireless communication system. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for obtaining uplink synchronization in a terminal in which multiple cells are included in a merged carrier-based communication system and a device therefore, wherein the method comprises the steps of transmitting a random access preamble on a first cell; receiving a random access reply message including an uplink timing adjusting value for the first cell after transmitting the random access preamble; carrying out transmitting the uplink on the first cell by using the uplink timing adjusting value. The transmitting time of the random access preamble is based on a certain timing related to a second cell.
