The present invention relates to a process for fiber loading by creating calcium carbonate in situ from calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide. The process comprises adding calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide and carbon dioxide into a suspension. In the process an alkaline alkali metal compound is added to the pulp suspension in a sub stoichiometric catalytic amount relative to the calcium compound for promoting calcium carbonate precipitation in said pulp suspension. After calcium carbonate precipitation, the resultant fiber loaded suspension is dewatered to provide a fibrous web comprising calcium carbonate filler and an aqueous phase depleted of calcium ions. |
