PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which a molten iron is produced by charging, as a raw and fuel material, an iron source consisting mainly of ferrous scrap, a coke and a slag-making agent from a furnace top part of a vertical melting furnace and melting the iron source mainly by the combustion heat of coke, and the temperature of the molten iron during the tapping from a vertical melting furnace is 1450 to 1550°C and the molten iron is to be subjected to converter refining in a post-process, that can reduce the coke use amount by effectively suppressing the gasification of coke.SOLUTION: The problem is solved by using, at least as a part of a coke, the coke of which surface is coated with a substance containing SiOby 95 mass% or more and alkali (Na, K) by 2 mass% or less. The coating material effectively suppresses the gasification reaction of coke which is an endothermic reaction and thus enabling to reduce the coke use amount. |
