1. A transmission device comprising:
a first detection unit that detects, using a signal which is outputted from a display device, whether the transmission device and the display device are connected; a transmission unit that transmits image data to the display device; a second detection unit that detects whether the display device is in a first state, wherein the first state is a state where a power source of the display device is on and a state where image data to be transmitted from the transmission unit to the display device is selected as image data to be displayed by the display device; and a control unit that (a) controls, based on a detection result of the first detection unit and a detection result of the second detection unit, whether the transmission unit transmits image data to the display device, and (b) causes the transmission unit not to transmit image data to the display device if the transmission device and the display device are connected and the display device is in a second state that is different from the first state.
