1. A method for collecting metals from a solution, in which method a bisphoshonate of formula Iwherein:
A is a (CR1R2)m—(CR3R4)n—(CR5R6)o— chain, B is a (CR1R2)m—(CR3R4)n—(CR5R6)o— chain, wherein k is 0, 1, or 2, m is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, n is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, o is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6;
R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6, are each independently H, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C6 alkenyl, C3-C6 alkynyl, or C3-C6 cycloalkenyl;E and F are independently a bond, 0, 5, NR7, C═O, NR7C═O, or CONR7;W is a bond, 0, 5, NR7, substituted or non-substituted ethylene group, ethynylene group, C3-C6 cycloalkyl, or a mono- or bicyclic aromatic or heteroaromatic ring of 5-12 atoms, andX is H, NR7R8, N+ R7R7R8, OH, CO2H, or SH;
wherein
R7 and R8 are independently H, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C6 alkenyl, C3-C6 alkynyl, or C3-C6 cycloalkenyl, or R7 and R8 together form a 4-8 membered ring containing optionally double or triple bonds;Y is H, OH, NH2, SH, CH2OH, CH2NH2, CH2CO2H or O—CO-A-G-B, whereinA and B are as defined above and G is a bond, substituted or non-substituted ethylene or ethynylene group; andZ is H+, Li+, Na+, K+, NH4+, or mono-, di-, tri- or tetraalkyl ammonium group;the substituents being selected so that the compound I is solid and insoluble or sparingly soluble;is mixed with the solution, whereby metals possibly present in the solution react with the bisphosphonate whereby a solid insoluble complex is formed, andthe complex is separated from the solution. |
