PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back light projection device or the like capable of being adopted for a direct view type thin image display device, and capable of separating heat generation from a liquid crystal panel to reduce adverse effect thereof.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal panel 170; and a back light projection device for projecting back face light (back light) from a back face of the liquid crystal display device, where the back light projection device is constituted of a backlight projection device (unit) 100 comprising a short-range inclined light projection optical system for inclining light from a light source 101 in a short distance, to be magnified and projected, in a back face side of the liquid crystal display device.
