PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for data conversion.SOLUTION: In a data conversion device 7, graphic elements represented as a plurality of laminated layer graphics in element input data as vector data are divided into unit areas of a specified width, and element output data is generated as a set of unit run length data of each unit area. Each unit area is divided into a plurality of split sections by using the start point coordinates and the end point coordinates of a layer graphic group overlapping each unit area, and the paint outline attribute of the layer graphic of the highest drawing priority in each split section is made the print outline attribute of the split section. The unit run length data of each unit area is generated on the basis of the paint outline attribute of each of the plurality of split sections. This eliminates the need for converting the vector data of the plurality of layer graphics into corresponding run length data, thereby shortening the time required for data conversion from element input data into element output data.
