by a computing device of a user, providing for display a digest of messages and notifications to the user, the digest comprising one or more interactive elements that each correspond to a message or notification, a message comprising a communication to the user from another user, a notification comprising an indication of an action by one or more other users on a social-networking system that relates to the user, the digest being provided for display without launching applications on the computing device associated with the messages or notifications; by the computing device, receiving first user input selecting one of the interactive elements; by the computing device, in response to the first user input providing for display the message or notification corresponding to the interactive element that was selected without launching an application on the computing device associated with the message or notification corresponding to the interactive element that was selected; by the computing device, receiving second user input interacting with the message or notification provided for display; and by the computing device, in response to the second user input executing a messaging or notification function corresponding to the interaction without launching the application on the computing device associated with the message or notification provided for display.
