PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device using the same and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent initial drive failure occurred in a driving of a light source which has been abandoned in dark state for a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION: An inverter control unit(12) creates a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal in correspondence to the input dimming control signal from an external controller. An inverter(14) generates the AC driving signal in response to the pulse-width modulating signal described in the above. A backlight(16) comprises a plurality of light sources and optical unit. The optical unit improves the efficiency of the light from each light source. According to the AC driving signal, the backlight generates the light. An auxiliary driving unit(20) drives the initial light emitting device unit(18). The auxiliary driving unit detects the on/off of light sources. |
