PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable reduction in production cost and provide excellent wearing feeling in brassieres or the like requiring a shape-retaining function.SOLUTION: In each of shape-retaining knitted or woven fabrics 11 and 12, the whole of a linear or planar core material 21 formed of a sheet-like union fabric 24 including a heat-fusible yarn 23 in part thereof is covered with a covering fabric 22 formed of a knitted or woven fabric. A shape to be retained is imparted to the core material 21 by heating and pressing at a temperature equal to or above the melting point of the heat-fusible yarn 23 and below the melting points of the covering fabric 22 and the part of the union fabric 24 other than the heat-fusible yarn 23. The core material 21 and part of the covering fabric 22 are joined at a joining part 26.
