The invention relates to a method (800) for determining a visual range in daytime fog (106), the method (800) having a read-in step (802) and a determination step (804). In the read-in step (802), coordinates of at least one characteristic point (110) of a brightness curve (102) of a camera image (100) of the fog (106) are read in. The brightness curve (102) represents brightness values of pixels of the camera image (100) along a reference axis (108) of the camera image (100). In the determination step (804), a meteorological visual range in the camera image (100) is determined using coordinates, a meteorological contrast threshold and a processing specification, in order to estimate the visual range in fog (106). The processing specification represents a position-dependent and/or direction-dependent scattered light through the fog (106) in the camera image (100). |
