PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide phosphorus-containing tin oxide particles capable of forming a conductive thin film having conductivity higher than a conventional one.SOLUTION: In phosphorus-containing tin oxide particles, when an average particle diameter Dof the particles measured by a dynamic light scattering method is defined as X (nm) and a ratio of carbon contained in the particles is defined as Y (mass%), a value of X/Y is 3 to 50. When a ratio of phosphorus contained in the tin oxide particles is defined as Z (mass%), a value of Z/Y preferably is 0.3 to 0.7. It is preferable that X is 1 to 50 nm, Y is 1.3 to 5.0 mass% and Z is 0.9 to 5.0 mass%.
