Provided is a white pigment for coatings, which still retains a high refractive index of titanium oxide contained therein and can be used as an alternative to a titanium oxide pigment. The white pigment for coatings according to the present invention comprises 100 parts by mass of kaolin particles and 25 to 96 parts by mass of titanium oxide particles, and is characterized by having a refractive index of 1.78 or more.
