A wave energy conversion device 2 has an adjustable buoyancy device 22 with an adjustable centre of gravity for substantially antiphase pitching of the device 2. The wave energy device has a flow channel defined between two side walls and a sloped bottom portion 6. The adjustable buoyancy device 22 is filled with a mixture of gas 24 and liquid, and has a concave roof portion 26, so that the gas 24 changes from one end to the other when a critical angle is reached. Pitching 180 degrees out of phase with the waves increases the volume of water flowing through the device 2 in long wavelength conditions and thus optimises the efficiency of the device 2. In short wavelength conditions, the adjustable buoyancy device 22 is turned off to minimise pitching, allowing multiple waves to flow through the device at a time. |
