The present invention relates to a novel tannin compound having an orcinol group, isolated from extracts of Cleyera japonica Thunberg leaves. The tannin compound displays an antioxidant activity by having a strong free radical scavenging activity. The novel tannin compound can be effectively used as an active ingredient in medicines and medical supplies, cosmetic products, functional foods, and the like, which need an antioxidant activity. |
