PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a good operability of a key top of a high back type key switch device which is embeddable into an operation panel of industrial and medical machines, even in a bad environment subject for example to splashing of oil and chemicals. SOLUTION: A support mechanism 18 of a key switch device 10 comprises a pair of link members 40, combined so as to interlock each other, which guide a key top 16 in an up/down direction; a base member 42 which supports both link members in a displaceable way below the key top; first engaging sections 60 which interlock an up/down motion of the key top 16 and a displacement of both link members 40; second engaging sections 62 which keep the pair of link members 40 supported by the base member 42 in a displaceable way; and locking sections 64 which, while the key top 16 descends, check a descent of the key top 16 to fix the lower-limit position of its up/down motion at a position where the first engaging sections 60 are above the second engaging sections 62 and apart by a predetermined distance D from the base member 42.
