PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for promoting growth of turf which is not only effective on promoting growth of turf but also usable with security for environment and a user when using molten slag generated from wastes as the material for promoting growth of turf. SOLUTION: The material for promoting growth of turf comprises granular molten slag consisting mainly of SiO<SB>2</SB>, CaO, Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, MgO, MnO, containing nitrogen (N), phosphate (P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>) and potassium (K) which are regarded as the three major nutrients for plants, and containing 0.1-5.0 mass% of iron oxide (FeO) while the content of lead (Pb) is suppressed within≤50 mass ppm. The molten slag preferably comprises coke, and is generated using a melting furnace employing a system for making the inside of the furnace into reduction atmosphere to turn the wastes into dry distilled gas.
