The present invention relates to a wireless communication system. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for providing a proximity service. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for providing a proximity service (ProSe) of a terminal in a wireless communication system may include the steps of: transmitting ProSe capability related information of the terminal to a network node; receiving information on the provision of a ProSe related network from the network node; determining the ProSe usage of the terminal based on the ProSe capability related information on the terminal and/or the received information on the provision of a ProSe related network; and transmitting the determination result of the ProSe usage of the terminal to the network node.
