This aluminum alloy sheet is a sheet of a specific 3000 series aluminum alloy for can bodies formed by drawing and ironing (DI). For producing the alloy sheet, the soaking conditions and hot rolling conditions for the ingot are controlled to produce a cold-rolled sheet having a structure in which the amount of a coarse Mn-based intermetallic compound is a specific value or less and a certain average amount of Mg in solution is ensured. The can body formed therefrom by DI has excellent piercing resistance even when used in a severe environment in which the can body has a lower internal pressure.
