<p>The invention relates to providing loyalty points to a customer using a personal communication device 100 e.g. smartphone, tablet or laptop, at a merchant location 102. An electronic purchase order is received from a personal communication device, loyalty points being awarded to the customer or consumer associated with the device if it is determined that the device is located at the merchants premises. The customer may access a website or purchase goods or services via their device using the password as a log-on. The devices may be used to request songs or videos to be played or to play games at the merchant location. A password may be provided to merchants participating in the loyalty award scheme who may then provide the password to customers who are present verbally, visually or by wireless transmission. The user may be prompted to enter the password onto the device to verify their presence in the store. A second password may be generated at a later time to verify the user is still present. The location may also be determined using connection to an on-site wireless network or using GPS or the like.</p> |
