The invention relates to peptide-based drugs for oral use. The pharmaceutical composition in the form of a gel comprises sodium alginate, a functional additive and water. The composition contains 0.07-0.13 mg of alpha-glutamyltryptophan dipeptide as functional additive per 10 ml dose. The sodium alginate content per dose of the composition is 200-300 mg. As a result, the composition has increased effectiveness in the treatment of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.
