A thermal event detection and notification system comprises: sensing means 20 for detecting a thermal event; a control unit 40 for receiving information from the sensing means 20 indicative of the detected thermal event; and means for determining, based on the information received, a location of the thermal event; and a means 17, 21 responsive to information received from the control unit 40 regarding said location, for providing an indication of the location of the detected thermal event at the said thermal event location. The system is particularly suited for use onboard an aircraft, ship, or train for detecting and notifying a person to the location of a thermal event such as a fire. The indication may be a visual and/or audible indication. The system may be integrated with an existing audio visual entertainment system on board an aircraft. The sensing means 20 may comprise a plurality fiber optic thermal sensors. The sensors may detect smoke, fire, heat, flame, and/or carbon monoxide. |
