The present invention is to provide an industrially suitable method for manufacturing optically active tetrahydrofuran-2-carboxylic acid using a raw material that is inexpensive and easily obtainable. The method for manufacturing optically active tetrahydrofuran-2-carboxylic acid manufactures (R)- or (S)-tetrahydrofuran-2-carboxylic acid having optical purity of 99.0% e.e. or more by reacting a mixture of (R)- and (S)-tetrahydrofuran-2-carboxylic acid with benzylamine to crystallize and purify in aliphatic alcohols having 2-4 carbon atoms or a mixture solvent including the aliphatic alcohols having 2-4 carbon atoms.
