One aspect of the present invention relates to mesostructured zeolites. The invention also relates to a method of preparing mesostructured zeolites, as well as using them as cracking catalysts for organic compounds and degradation catalysts for polymers.

1. A method of making a one-phase mesostructured crystalline zeolite material having long-range crystallinity and comprising a plurality of mesopores, the method comprising:
a) providing an initial zeolite material having long range crystallinity; b) exposing at least a portion of said initial zeolite material to a pH controlling substance and a surfactant in a first reaction mixture under conditions sufficient to increase the mesoporosity of said initial zeolite material; and c) recovering a one-phase mesostructured crystalline zeolite material from said first reaction mixture, wherein said mesostructured crystalline zeolite material comprises a plurality of mesopores defined by and penetrating through at least a portion of the volume of the crystalline zeolite structure, wherein the plurality of mesopores has a controlled cross sectional area, thereby forming a one-phase mesostructure having long-range crystallinity.
