The present invention relates to an electric vehicle which is safely driven. The electric vehicle driven with electric energy according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a motor which generates torque from the electric energy for driving the electric vehicle, an accelerator which outputs acceleration information to determine the torque generated from the motor, a distance sensor which senses a distance from an obstacle existing in the driving direction of the electric vehicle, a vehicle speed sensor which senses the speed of the electric vehicle, and a control unit which controls the motor not to generate the torque even though the accelerator outputs the acceleration information if the distance sensed by the distance sensor is smaller than a first reference distance in proportion to the speed sensed by the vehicle speed sensor. |
