The present invention relates to an electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery which comprises lithium salt, non-aqueous organic solvent, and additives, wherein the additive includes a compound represented by chemical formula 1; and a rechargeable lithium battery comprising the same. The structure and definition of the chemical formula 1 are as described in the specification. The electrolytes for a rechargeable lithium battery and the rechargeable lithium battery comprising the same, according to the present invention, have excellent thermal stability and service life characteristics.
