The invention relates to in vitro methods and products for detecting the presence of an invasive carcinoma in an individual, to determine and/or predict the status and/or invasiveness of said carcinoma in an individual, or to monitor the effect of the treatment administered to an individual having said carcinoma, on the basis of the expression of the gene col1 1a1 and of the protein proCOL1 1A1. The invention also refers to the search, identification, development and evaluation of the effectiveness of compounds for treatment of said carcinoma, in order to develop new drugs. The invention also relates to agents that inhibit the expression and/or activity of the protein proCOL11A1 and/or the effects of said expression.
