According to an embodiment of the present invention, a lighting apparatus (1) has a socket section (2), a light emitting section (3), and a cover section (4). The light emitting section (3) is provided in a housing section (21) of the socket section (2), and has light emitting elements (31). The cover section (4) closes the housing section (21) of the socket section (2), and has an opening (41) formed therein, said opening passing through light radiated from the light emitting elements (31). A light emitting section (3) end surface (light emitting section upper surface (3a)) on the opening (41) side overlaps the opening (41) in the thickness direction of the cover section (4), and the end surface is positioned further toward the light emitting section (3) side than a cover section (4) end surface (cover section upper surface (4a)) on the reverse side of the light emitting section (3). The highly reliable lighting apparatus and a lighting apparatus for vehicles are provided.
