[Problem] To provide a cured-film forming composition suitable for the formation of a cured film that exhibits superior liquid crystal alignability, to provide an alignment material, and to provide a retardation material by using the alignment material. [Solution] A cured-film forming composition containing: (A) one type or a plurality of types of a compound that includes an optical aligning group and a hydroxy group, etc.; (B) a polymer that, for example, includes at least one substituent group selected from the group comprising of a hydroxy group, a carboxyl group, an amine group, and an alkoxysilyl group; and (C) a cross-linking agent. Component (A) contains at least a compound that includes the group expressed by formula (1) as an optical aligning group (in the formula, A1 and A2 each independently express a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and A3 expresses a hydroxy group, etc.). A cured film is formed using this cured-film forming composition, and optical alignment art is used to form an alignment material. Polymerizable liquid crystals are coated on the alignment material and cured to obtain a retardation material. |
