A method for producing a catalyst, which comprises: a step for preparing a solution that contains ions of a transition metal which is at least one element selected from the group consisting of tin, indium, tantalum, cerium, tungsten and molybdenum; a step for preparing a slurry solution by adding carbon particles which support noble metal particles into the above-described solution, wherein the noble metal is platinum or a platinum alloy; a step for forming catalyst particles by performing an electrolysis in the slurry solution so that the transition metal is electrodeposited on the noble metal particles, wherein the electrolysis is carried out at a potential at which the transition metal is electrodeposited on the noble metal particles but is not substantially electrodeposited on the carbon particles; and a step for recovering the catalyst particles. |
