Provided are a surface illumination device and a vehicle emblem using the same capable of efficiently guiding light from a plurality of light sources through a light guide body in a direction substantially orthogonal to the incident direction with a simple, thin structure. A plurality of light sources (6) is arranged side by side along the reverse light guiding direction (X). The light introducing part (5A) of the light guide body (5) includes: an incident surface (13) extending in the reverse light guiding direction (X) to face the plurality of light sources (6); and a reflection surface (15) which extends diagonally and planarly from the outer edge of the incident surface (13), is inclined with respect to the incident surface (13) at an acute angle larger than the inherent critical angle of the material used for the light guide body (5), and reflects the light incident from the incident surface (13) in the thickness direction (d) to introduce the reflected light into a light guide part (5B) in the light guiding direction (X0). The plurality of light sources (6) is arranged deviated from the boundary (P) between the diagonally extending reflection surface (15) and the light guide part (5B) in the reverse light guiding direction (X).
