PRODUCTION OF EXTRACELLULAR TYROSINASE ENZYME USING THE FUNGUS GLIOCEPHALOTRICHUM FOR VARIOUS APPLICATIONS

This invention discloses a process to produce high amounts of extracellular tyrosinase from the fungus Gliocephalotrichum MTCC 5489 by growing the fungus in a suitable culture medium under conditions of appropriate pH, temperature and oxygen conditions. The fungus is capable of producing tyrosinase enzyme having both of monophenolase and diphenolase activities in high level. The tyrosinase enzyme is further capable of synthesizing L-diydroxyphenylalanine from L-tyrosine in vitro as well as under in vivo condition. The tyrosinase enzyme is also capable of producing melanin under in vitro conditions.
