Disclosed are a tax refund system and a method therefor. Here, the tax refund system includes: a refund operation server for storing a purchase item mapped to the information of the purchaser's passport to generate the refund information by checking the purchase item mapped to the information of the passport contained in the refund request; a first unmanned automatic device installed in a non-tax-free area of an airport and connected through a network to the refund operation server for receiving the purchase information identifying the purchase item and the passport information transmitted to the refund operation server to map them; and a second unmanned automatic device installed in a tax-free area of the airport and connected through the network to the refund operation server for transmitting the refund request including the passport information to the refund operation server and paying the refund according to the refund information received from the refund operation server.
