<p>The invention relates to an apparatus and method for manufacturing a three-dimensional object (2) by consecutively consolidating, layer by layer, selected areas of a powder stratum, the consolidated areas corresponding to consecutive sections of the three-dimensional object, said method comprising the following steps, in order: a) depositing a powder layer onto a substrate; b) at least partially preheating said powder layer using a first electron-beam power source (20); c) heating said powder layer using a second laser-beam power source (19) capable of melting the powder particles; d) moving the laser beam (19) of said second source relative to the object (2) along a predetermined path so as to melt the powder and form a section of said object; and e) repeating at least steps a, c, and d so as to form a plurality of layers of melted material, arranged one on top of the other, thereby forming said object (2).</p> |
