PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a composition of a mucus secretion and to open a road to utilization of the mucus secretion because the mucus secretion of Euglena can be produced as a by-product by mass culture of the Euglena enabled by zealous effort of this inventors in recent years.SOLUTION: In a mucus-like polysaccharide which Euglena secretes outside of the cell, constituent sugars of the polysaccharide are at least xylose, rhamnose, glucose, N-acetylglucosamine and galactose. The constituent sugars are contained much in order of xylose, rhamnose, and glucose, and derived from suspended matter in culture broth in an anaerobic state of the Euglena. |
