PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress removal of an original image from an output image while shortening the time until an output image is outputted, in an image reader reading a manuscript by emitting light thereto.SOLUTION: In an image reader, after acquiring a read image by reading a region including a manuscript, a manuscript read region including an image of reading the shadow of the manuscript is specified together with the image of reading the manuscript. Furthermore, region extraction processing for extracting the output image from the read image is performed. In the region extraction processing, the width, i.e., the edge width, in the transport direction of the image reading the shadow of the manuscript is determined from prestored values (S60-S64). In a region discrimination processing included in the region extraction processing (S70, 72), a vertex becoming a reference is determined depending on the inclination of the manuscript read region for the main scanning direction, and the output range of the output image is specified. |
