PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element that is easy to be manufactured and is excellent in luminous efficiency and life.SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element includes a structure in which a plurality of layers are laminated between a positive electrode 7 and a negative electrode 2 formed on a substrate, a metal oxide layer 3 between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a layer 4 of an average thickness of 3 to 150 nm composed of a nitrogen containing film on the metal oxide layer.
