Provided in the present invention are a rotary dryer using far-infrared rays for clothes which heats an object to be dried with far-infrared rays to increase energy efficiency and lowers the heating point with a pressure reducing device to reduce damages to the object to be dried, and a method for controlling the dryer. The rotary dryer using far-infrared rays for clothes of the present invention comprises a body including a sealed space inside; a rotary container which includes a receiving unit inside for receiving the object to be dried and which is installed inside the body to be rotated; a far-infrared panel which is installed on the body and radiates far-infrared rays to the inside of the rotary container; and a pressure reducing device which is installed on the body and reduces the pressure inside the body to lower the evaporation temperature of moisture.
