An apparatus and a method for outputting audio are provided to output audio data through a speaker of an external case by installing the speaker in the external case when a mobile terminal is connected to the external case. When a mobile terminal receives a call(300), a control unit determines whether a mobile terminal is connected to an external case(302). When the mobile terminal is connected to the external case, the control unit determines whether the external case is opened or closed through a sensing unit(304). When the external case is closed based on the determination result, the control unit outputs bell sound through a speaker of the external case to inform the receipt of a call(306). When the external case is opened based on the determination result, the control unit outputs the bell sound through the speaker of the mobile terminal(308). If it is sensed that the external case is opened, the control unit determines whether it is key input for connecting the received call while the bell sound is outputted through the speaker(310). When the key is inputted based on the determination result, the control unit connects the received call(312). |
