A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including a negative electrode, a positive electrode, and a separator therebetween, a case housing the electrode assembly, a cap plate sealing the case and electrically connected to the positive electrode, a negative terminal and a positive terminal penetrating the cap plate and respectively electrically connected to the negative electrode and the positive electrode, and a safety member located between the electrode assembly and the case, electrically connected to the negative electrode, and including an end portion coupled to the negative electrode, a plate portion at a side of the electrode assembly, and a resistance controller coupling the end portion and the plate portion, and having a higher electrical resistance than the plate portion. |
