The method comprises fastening an edge strip (2) to a narrow surface of a furniture panel (1) to form a connecting joint (3), and applying a hydrophobing agent in a region of the joint after and/or prior to attachment of the edge strip and the furniture panel. The furniture panel is coated on one side or both sides with coatings (4) such as resin impregnated paper and/or films. The hydrophobing agent is applied in liquid form such as solution, emulsion or suspension. The hydrophobing agent is applied using an application device (8). The hydrophobing agent is applied simultaneously or sequentially to both sides of the connecting joint using two application devices. The furniture panel, prior to attachment of the edge strip, is formatted by machining. The edge strip, after the attachment of the furniture panel and before the application of the hydrophobing agent, is machined. The hydrophobing agent is applied in the region of the connecting joint for the fastening of the edge strip. The hydrophobing agent is first applied to edge regions of the narrow surface of the furniture panel, and then the edge strip is fixed. |
